The world has likewise experienced incredible mechanical progressions that have given individuals simple availability to data on nearly everything that an individual might be keen on (Waters, Tindall and Morton 2010).Advertising We will compose a custom exposition test on The Effectiveness of Public Relations and Relationship Marketing to the Successful Promotion of Winbeldon Championships explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More This, along with the dynamic power of progress that continually face business world, has prompted the requirement for another methodology in the manner a business substance does its exercises so as to have a fruitful deals battle for its items. One way that organizations have reacted to the adjustments in the business world is through the expansion in open connection exercises which t arget elevating the items to the objective markets by taking part in what is esteemed by the objective clients. In advertising, a business intends to accomplish the target of making a positive connection between its clients, the item and the association itself through different methods for correspondence (Strã ¶mbã ¤ck, Mitrook and Kiousis 2010). It is likewise planned for making a decent picture for the association, dealing with any emergency that may confront an organization or its item and furthermore making altruism in the eye of the overall population. A business can likewise make a trade framework between colleagues and itself with the point of accomplishing common advantage for the two sides of the deal. This is alluded to as the relationship promoting and is planned for accomplishing the goal of making client unwaveringness for items offered by the organization, communication between the organization and the market it serves, and the maintenance of the piece of the pie tol d by the organization (Botan and Taylor 2004). This goal is attainable through the arrangement of important data to the clients on the items offered by the organization and bolster data about the correct use of such items. This can make a pool of rehash clients, who are eager to see the achievement of the organization through the arrangement of important data on advertise requirements and referrals. PR as a corporate action has been affected intensely by the progression of innovation. With work stations being able to get data, alter such data and furthermore to send data, another way to deal with PR exercises is unavoidable. Matters have been muddled by the way that data on different exercises, items, and the business when all is said in done is currently accessible in the information banks over the web (Grunig 2006).Advertising Looking for exposition on business financial aspects? One of the open doors introduced to PR exercises is the capacity to create customized data that focus on a particular market specialty. Input from the market is currently conceivable and the appraisal of the viability of the advertising exercises is presently conceivable. Different speculations have been proposed to clarify advertising. One of such hypotheses is the balanced methodology which utilizes the idea of four models. As per this methodology, the primary target of the advertising is to advocate the enthusiasm of the association that supports open connection exercises. This is conversely with the topsy-turvy model proposed early which see advertising as an idea planned for advancing the interests of both the association and the overall population. The perspectives on the symmetric methodolog y are considered ridiculous, yet additionally optimistic since by employing open connection specialists, an organization focuses on the advancement of its inclinations as opposed to attempting to advance the impression of an ideal association so as to win the enthusiasm of the partners outside the association, who may have various perspectives other than those held by the association. Advertising are viewed as dependent on morals (Health 2006). Be that as it may, the subject of support of morals in term of money related comes back to the association emerges. Another way of thinking that has been progressed to conceptualize advertising is the talk hypothesis. The hypothesis gives talk discourse as the procedure through which impact and ends can be found. As per Hung (2009), this can be accomplished in two different ways; one of the ways includes commitment of gatherings in return of proclamations and counter explanations on the items offered, open arrangements and the administrations with a perspective on surveying the manner in which each gathering view esteems and real factors. In this exchange, the PR experts and the customers participate in enticing talk (Roper, 2005). Talk hypothesis on advertising and the symmetric hypothesis concede to the way that morals ought to be drilled on a level ground. It likewise bolsters the perspectives on the awry hypothesis on the affirmation of the possibility that open strategies and thoughts should remain in the commercial center on their own dependent on merit. In any case, this view by the proponentsââ¬â¢ talk approach is reprimanded by open connection pundits who contend that the method of reasoning proposed by the talk hypothesis neglects to make advertising increasingly moral, except if there is equivalent conveyance of assets to the included public.Advertising We will compose a custom exposition test on The Effectiveness of Public Relations and Relationship Marketing to the Successful Promotion of Winbeldon Champ ionships explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More The social way to deal with advertising likewise attempts to clarify the jobs of the advertising to the association (Li and Bernoff 2008). This methodology takes an association and the general public everywhere into viewpoint and effectively gives the genuine importance to advertising. This hypothesis considers the relationship that exists between associations that finance the advertising exercises, and people in general through which an association means to advance its items, in which transparency, productivity, collaboration, duty and believability are improved (Sweetser and Metzgar 2007). This methodology neglects to contrast and the other two in as much as the fundamental viewpoint on the idea of the relationship is concerned. For this situation, the relationship as a rule may not be even. The administration of relationship is viewed as instrumental instead of a methodology towards advertising movement. It is viewed as the headway of generosity in advertising. Wimbledon Championship attracts incredible intrigue the brandishing scene. To start with, there was the definition of destinations which planned for keeping these partners concentrated on the work. This empowered the staffs to focus on the objectives that had been set for them. There was the foundation of three kinds of expert projects with the end goal of advancement by the association the executives for staff individuals, the executives and different members in the planning of the occasion (Hallahan 2009). This first agricultural census was fairly limited in scope, recording numbers of common farm animals, wool and soil crop production, and the value of poultry and dairy products. The information collected generally increased by year but may include such items as the value and acreage of the farm, whether it was owned or rented, the number of livestock owned in various categories, the types and value of crops, and the ownership and use of various farm implements. Taking of the U.S. Agricultural Census The first agricultural census of the United States was taken as part of the 1840 federal census, a practice which continued through 1950. The 1840 census included agriculture as a category on a special manufacturing schedule. From 1850, agricultural data was enumerated on its own special schedule, usually referred to as the agricultural schedule.à Between 1954 and 1974, the Census of Agriculture was conducted in years ending in 4 and 9. In 1976 Congress enacted Public Law 94ââ¬â229 directing that the census of agriculture be taken in 1979, 1983, and then every fifth year thereafter, adjusted to 1978 and 1982 (years ending in 2 and 7) so that the agricultural schedule coincided with other economic censuses. The enumeration timing changed one last time in 1997 when it was decided that the agricultural census would be taken in 1998 and every fifth year thereafter (Title 7, U.S. Code, Chapter 55). Availability of U.S. Agricultural Schedules 1850-1880:à U.S. agricultural schedules are most widely available for research for the years 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880. In 1919 the Bureau of the Census transferred custody of the existing 1850ââ¬â1880 agricultural and other non-population schedules to state repositories and, in cases where state officials declined to receive them, to the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for safekeeping.1 Thus, the agricultural schedules were not among the census enumerations transferred to the National Archives upon its creation in 1934. NARA has since acquired microfilm copies of many of these 1850ââ¬â1880 non-population schedules, although not all states or years are available. Selected schedules from the following states can be viewed on microfilm at the National Archives: Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Washington, and Wyoming, plus Bal timore City and County and Worcester County, Maryland. A full list of non-population census schedules available on microfilm from the National Archives can be browsed by state in the NARA Guide to Non-population Census Records. 1850ââ¬â1880 Agricultural Schedules Online: A number of agricultural schedules for this time period are available online. Begin with subscription-based Ancestry.com, which offers selected agricultural census schedules for this period for states including Alabama, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. Search Google and relevant state repositories as well, to locate possible digitized agricultural schedules. The Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission, for example, hosts online digitized images of the 1850 and 1880 Pennsylvania agricultural schedules. For the agricultural schedules not found online, check the online card catalog for state archives, libraries, and historical societies, as they are the most likely repositories of the original schedules. Duke University is a repository for the non-population census schedules for several states, including select original returns for Colorado, District of Columbia, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Virginia, with scattered records for Montana, Nevada, and Wyoming. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill holds microfilm copies of agricultural schedules for the southern states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. Three reels from this collection (out of about 300 total) are digitized and available on Archive.org: NC Reel 5 (1860, Alamance - Cleveland), NC Reel 10 (1870, Alamance - Currituck) and NC Reel 16 (1880, Bladen - Carteret). A Summary of Special Census Schedules, 1850ââ¬â1880 in The Source: A Guidebook of American Genealogy by Loretto Dennis Szucs and Sandra Hargreaves Leubking (Ancestry Publishing, 2006) provides a good starting point for the location of extant agricultural schedules, organized by state. 1890-1910:à It is generally believed that the agricultural schedules for 1890 were either destroyed by the 1921 fire at the U.S. Commerce Building or later destroyed with the rest of the damaged 1890 population schedules.2 Six million agricultural schedules and one million irrigation schedules from the 1900 census were among the records identified in a list of useless papers with no permanent value or historical interest on file at the Census Bureau, and were destroyed unmicrofilmed under provisions of an act of Congress approved 2 March 1895 to authorize and provide for the disposition of useless papers in the Executive Departments.3 The 1910 agricultural schedules met a similar fate.4 1920-present:à In general, the only information from the agricultural censuses readily available for researchers after 1880 are the published bulletins produced by the Bureau of the Census and Department of Agriculture with tabulated results and analysis presented by state and county (no information on individual farms and farmers). Individual farm schedules have generally been destroyed or are otherwise inaccessible, although a few were preserved by state archives or libraries. 84,939 schedules from the 1920 agricultural census for livestock not on farms were on a list for destruction in 1925.5 Although efforts were made to preserve the six million, four hundred thousand 1920 farm schedules for their historical value, the 1920 agricultural schedules still appeared on a March 1927 list of records from the Bureau of the Census destined for destruction and are believed to have been destroyed.6 The National Archives does, however, hold 1920 agricultural schedules in Record Group 29 fo r Alaska, Guam, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, and 1920 general farm schedules for McLean County, Illinois; Jackson County, Michigan; Carbon County, Montana; Santa Fe County, New Mexico; and Wilson County, Tennessee. 3,371,640 agricultural farm schedules from the 1925 agricultural census were dispositioned for destruction in 1931.7 The whereabouts of the majority of the individual farm schedules for 1930 are unknown, but the National Archives does hold the 1930 farm schedules for Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Tips for Research in the U.S. Agricultural Schedules Agricultural census schedules, except for many of those available online, are mostly unindexed. Like the population schedule, agricultural schedules are arranged by county and township, and the family number found in the population census corresponds to the family number in the agriculture census. The agricultural census schedule enumerated all free individuals who produced goods over a certain value (generally $100 or more), but census-takers often included farmers who produced goods of lesser value, so even very small family farms can often be found in these schedules.Read the enumerator instructions for each agricultural schedule for specific definitions regarding how farms were determined in the case of managers or overseers, how crops and livestock were calculated, etc. Census.gov has online PDFs of the instructions for census enumerators, which include (if you scroll down) the special schedules. Agricultural Census Summaries The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has published statistical summaries of agricultural census data for states and counties (but not townships), from the census of 1840 up through the present day. These agricultural census publications published prior to 2007 can be accessed online from the USDA Census of Agriculture Historical Archive. U.S. agricultural census schedules are an often-overlooked, valuable resource for genealogists, especially those looking to fill in gaps for missing or incomplete land and tax records, distinguish between two men with the same name, learn more about the daily life of their farming ancestor, or to document black sharecroppers and white overseers. Sometimes a change in one area of life will give way to changes in other areas, but the ensuing changes would not have come about without the first change that set things in motion. This is the case with Gregor and his family. Gregorââ¬â¢s family was in dire need of change, and Gregorââ¬â¢s condition became a powerful catalyst for that change. Gregorââ¬â¢s metamorphosis facilitates the change of his entire family, proving that oftentimes an outside source is needed to pull people out of a rut and get them on their feet again. In the beginning, the lives of the family members mean nothing and have no purpose. They are not individuals, but rather mindless drones who take advantage of a convenient situation, allowing Gregor to meet the expenses of the whole household (95). After Gregor is transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect (67), the lifestyle of the family changes dramatically. As David Eggenschwiler says, the three Samsas [the family] . . . assume and struggle with many of the problems that Gregor once had (208). No longer able to rely on Gregor, the family must now face the difficulties of supporting the household and providing income. As a result, each member of the family: the mother, the father, and the sister, slowly has a metamorphosis. Throughout the course of the story, Gregors mother gradually changes, becoming more self-sufficient. In the early stages of the story, Gregor describes his mother as having severe asthma, which kept her lying on a sofa every other day panting for breath (97). The mother seems destined to be a bystander, incapable of working or taking action. However, as the story progresses, she desires to see her lost son and develops a more adventurous spirit. One of the most prominent theorists of those that analyze films from a feminist perspective is Laura Mulvey. Mulvey is famous for her essay ââ¬Å"Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema,â⬠which presents an array of theories involving the treatment of women in films. Arguably the most notable idea presented in Mulveyââ¬â¢s work is the existence of the ââ¬Å"male gazeâ⬠in films. This essay will examine Mulveyââ¬â¢s theory of the male gaze in relation to Alfred Hitchcockââ¬â¢s film, Vertigo. Vertigo does not fit the criteria of a film that embodies Mulveyââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"male gazeâ⬠because of three key elements, the presentation of the Midge character, the flashback scene, and the conscious submission of Judyââ¬â¢s character to the wishes of Scottie. Before these elements of the film can be related to the ââ¬Å"male gaze,â⬠it is imperative to understand the theory behind the gaze according to Laura Mulvey. The male gaze is a theory which states that most films are shown from the point of view of a white, middle-class male. That includes the complete objectification of women into sex objects. This includes scenes that accentuate the curves of a womanââ¬â¢s body, or focus heavily on her breasts. Women are also seen as figures that rely on the man to get by in the male gaze, which means they are void of all qualities which could ââ¬Å"castrateâ⬠the male or leave him in a situation where he does not have the power in the relationship between them. It also stays out of the womenââ¬â¢s point of view and does not reveal her thoughts or perceptions in relation to any of the maleââ¬â¢s actions, the gaze purports that the films focus on the male and his point of view, while merely objectifying the women. Now that the male gaze has been sufficiently explained, it can be clarified how the aforementioned elements contained in Alfred Hitchcockââ¬â¢s Vertigo do not comply with Mulveyââ¬â¢s theory. The first element to examine within the film is the presentation of Barbara Bel Geddesââ¬â¢ character, Midge Wood. Midge is not presented as a sexual object for Scottie in any way. In actuality, the male gaze may be somewhat satirized in this film by the fact that Midge designs brasseries for a living, yet she is not a sexual exploit or sexually driven at all in this film. Midge also contradicts the male gaze because she is placed in a position of power over Scottie, as he goes to her to deal with his vulnerabilities regarding acrophobia in the beginning of the film. Midgeââ¬â¢s position of power over Scottie is further affirmed as she refers to herself as ââ¬Å"motherâ⬠multiple times in the film. An example is seen when Scottie mentions seeming lost in the mental hospital and Midge replies ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢re not lost, Mothers here. â⬠Scottieââ¬â¢s acceptance of this represents a castration affect not typical to the male gaze, as well as the extremely atypical acceptance of a female in power in a film by a lead male. This presentation of Midge in Vertigo demonstrates a variance from Mulveyââ¬â¢s view of female characters in accordance with the male gaze. Another scene in the movie does this by allowing us into the mind of a female character and giving us information before even Scottie obtains it. The aforementioned scene is a flashback that occurs after Scottieââ¬â¢s first encounter with Judy in her apartment. During this flashback, the viewer is exposed to Judyââ¬â¢s actual thought process and frame of mind. The viewer is provided with key information, the fact that Judy is Madeleine, which even Scottie does not yet know. This occurrence is unique because it creates a dichotomy with the male gaze, since Judy is much more than an object of sexual desire. Judy becomes an active part of the ââ¬Å"lensâ⬠through which the viewer sees the film, making it almost transcend into a female gaze for this brief period. This one scene is a clear example which shows the male gaze does not remain constantly present throughout this film. The character of Judy herself can easily represent the stereotype that the male gaze portrays for women in film. She is changed by Scottie throughout the second half of the film to resemble Madeleine, which feeds Scottieââ¬â¢s obsession and objectifies her. This change, however, can also be used to show a gap in the male gaze within the film due to one line uttered by Judy at the end of the film. When Judy and Scottie arrive at the top of the church and he confronts her, Judy says ââ¬Å"I wanted you to change me becauseâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ The key part of this statement is Judyââ¬â¢s assertion that she allowed Scottie to change her. If this situation was to remain typical of the male gaze, she would simply have changed because Scottie was in control. It would have been what he wished and it would have happened without a defense or explanation because she would simply be an object for his pleasure. Judy stating that she allowed the change to happen for a reason shatters that idea. Her suggestion that she allowed the changes to occur for her benefit actually puts her in a position of power. Although it may have seemed as though Scottie was changing her and getting his every wish, Judy claims that she submitted to this changes willingly, because she wanted him to know who she was. If the viewer assumes this claim is true, then Judy manipulated Scottie and played his own obsession against him. This does not fall within the scope of Mulveyââ¬â¢s male gaze, as that would see the female manipulated by the male without retort or reasoning. Laura Mulveyââ¬â¢s ideas and rationales put forth in her theory of the male gaze are widely accepted and referenced when studying the roles of women in film. However, the gaze cannot be a blanket theory applied to all films, as some simply do not fit the criteria it lays forth. The presentation of Midge, the flashback scene, and the conscious submission of Judyââ¬â¢s character to the wishes of Scottie illustrate that Alfred Hitchcockââ¬â¢s Vertigo is one of those films. One major problem is the depletion of natural resources. Trees, for example, are cut out because they will be used in making different products such as papers. This will branch out to many problems like global warming. In this research, coconut shell (Cocos nucifera) will be tested to see if it can be used as an alternative in making art paper. We chose to make a research about paper since its demand is high. Papers are widely used everyday. This research will be conducted within the campus of BHC. Within this research project, researchers will make various proportions of pulverized shells. Researchers will use starch with 20 ml water to put the materials together. This liquid concentration will be our dependent variable. Researchers will make their independent variable into three different proportions. 75g powdered coconut shell and 25 g shredded old newspaper; 50g powdered coconut shell and 50g shredded old newspaper; 25g powdered coconut shell and 75g shredded old newspaper. We will write a custom essay on The Acceptibility of Coconut Shell as an Art Paper specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now This will help us to test the toughness of the art paper particularly art papers used as corkboards. We chose to use coconut shell because of its high durability and because it is the most versatile part of the part of the coconut. This will help us in protecting our nature and at the same time, the product will be more affordable since the materials used are cheaper. Coconut shell (Cocos nucifera) is the most versatile part of the coconut. The shell is inorganic in nature; this will help make our product eco-friendly. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM The researcher aims to study on the acceptability of the pulverized coconut shell as an art paper. Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions: 1. How will the use of pulverized coconut shell affect the a. Durability of the paper? b. Color of the paper? c. Texture of the paper? d. Thickness of the paper? 2. What will be the effect of the pulverized coconut shell on the art papers in terms of: a. Durability of the paper? b. Color of the paper? c. Texture of the paper? d. Thickness of the paper? 3. Are there significant differences between the product and any commercial art paper in terms of: a. Durability of the paper? b. Color of the paper? c. Texture of the paper? d. Thickness of the paper? HYPOTHESIS 1. The use of pulverized coconut shell as an alternative material in making art paper will not affect the color, durability and texture of the art paper. 2. There is no effect on the color, durability and texture of the art paper when pulverized coconut shell is used. 3. There is no significant difference between the product and any commercial art paper. SCOPE AND DELIMITATION The study focuses on making art paper form pulverized coconut shell. The study aims to look for alternative material in making art paper to decrease the cutting of trees where papers come from. The study will be conducted within the campus of BHC. The selection of respondents are only limited to high school students, specifically, students who are wide users of art paper. This study will be conducted from June 2010 until March 2011. Our study does not offer a solution for the excessive cutting of trees. It will only help lower the chance of such activities. This study is just an experiment to test if pulverized coconut shell can be use as an alternative material in making art paper. However, without any controversy, it is true that visual arguments are equally effective as their verbal counterparts, if not more. Audience analysis The nature of the advertisement makes it obvious that the target audience is the general public. This is because the general public is susceptible to unwanted household insects and therefore serves as both the potential and prospective market for Baygon spray. Again, the audience is the general public is a matter that is well underscored by the fact that the message appeals to both sexes and all ages. Claim Seeing that this Baygon insect spray advertisement has conveyed complete meaning on its own; just as people say that a picture is worth a thousand words, so it is that visual arguments and modes of communication can surpass their audio counterparts. Reasons There are several factors that cogently support the claim of visual arguments surpassing audio means of communication. First, visual presentation only orchestrates the elements that are necessary for human interpretation. For instance, since the shoe rack is pitted against a poorly lit background while the Baygon spray is placed in the foreground, one can know that the problem is that of indoor insects.à Lorenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14109477476509743538noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8646486381052930361.post-64709444179161822142020-01-29T06:04:00.001-08:002020-01-29T06:04:05.265-08:00Soul Food vs. Fast Food Essay Example for Free Soul Food vs. Fast Food Essay As Applebees would say, ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s no place like the neighbor. â⬠How would the world classify good food? Which one will result in the best answer, hamburger and fries or biscuit with gravy? Is hamburger and fries the best choice because a biscuit with gravy takes more time? There are a lot of reasons why people choose homemade food versus fast food. Both homemade food and soul food taste good, however homemade food offers a variety of history, emotions, and memories of different cultures. Different family meomories take a part of it when its soul food ,because thereââ¬â¢s nothing like grandmaââ¬â¢s cooking . The homemade food brings family members together. African Americans use the word soul food to describe homemade foods. Soul food normally provides the opportunity for families to come together and even though its a lot of drama when every one come to gether u always remember the food the most . The dinners at grandmaââ¬â¢s house are always remembered by family members. The dinners usually consist of chicken, potato salad, beans, and biscuits. After the traditional dinners, someone will always serve the homemade desserts. The elders are normally appreciated because of their love, patience, and knowledge with soul food. This fact never fails, a person who knows about soul food will always return home for their cultureââ¬â¢s food. Love can almost be tasted in soul food which comes through mostly in the actual preparation of the dishes. Soul food has a great affect that comes with a special touch, precious time, and extra ingredients. The cook puts so much love in preparing soul food for the family. In many cases, the cooks get delighted when the family eats the food. The cooks obtain a warm feeling especially when someone praises their work. In many cases, people will try their best to Cook soul food just like their mother and grandma, because they miss their soul food. Soul food makes a house feel like a home because the food represents love and comfort. Soul food has history because it passes traditions and customs of the past elders of the family. ââ¬Å"How do you make homemade peach cobbler,â⬠the elders will say, ââ¬Å"Watch carefully and you can learn. â⬠Being a country child growing up, and understanding the background of soul food makes one appreciate the food more. The cannery is where garden vegetables are canned and there are few canneries still around in todayââ¬â¢s time. The opportunity of going to the cannery with grandparents is a memory to cherish along with picking fresh vegetables from the garden. This opportunity sets aside the time to learn that homemade cooking is a job before the pots start boiling. On the contrary, fast food restaurants are an excellent choice of convenience. For example at Burger King, a fast food restaurant,â⬠you can have it your way. â⬠The choices of fast food restaurants are a great thing to have in the world. Also, the restaurants are excellent when traveling and trying to satisfy the hunger pain quickly. When parents do not feel like cooking a home cooked meal, they can always go through the drive-thru. Fast food restaurants can be good for a quick date. Quickness is great, especially in todayââ¬â¢s society. Applebees is a great place to get away from home for the night. Many people take pleasure in going to fancy restaurants by themselves, with a date? or to gather with friends and/or family. There are plenty of restaurants that are appropriate for every occasion and all ages. Restaurants leave the stomach satisfied but can be healthy and allow family time together. Why healthy? Restaurants include in their menu a variety of salads options grill or bake dishes, and even a weight watchersââ¬â¢ menu. The decision is always in oneââ¬â¢s hands to decide between a health dishes or unhealthy dish. All food is delicious but, has downfalls. For instance, fast food does not represent any love but just quickness. There is no special touch, time spent, and extra ingredients. Fast food basically has a concern of reasonable prices or either having the fastest time in the drive ââ¬âthru. A lot of employees are just in the restaurant to get a pay check rather than having a concern for the customers to have a good lunch or dinner or even breakfast. The restaurant is leaving out the family time because mostly the families are on the go all of the time. The time spent with preparing traditional food is appreciated, but, the tradition that people look for is quickness in fast food restaurant, which leads to obesity. The number one problem is obesity in fast foods. The reason for this issue is that parents go through the drive-thru and let the child order everything. Another reason is that parents are at work all of the time, and this generation is basically choosing from frozen food or fast food when living in this situation. Obesity comes from parents who do not have the time to prepare a loving home cooked meal, only because the parentsââ¬â¢ lives are put before their childââ¬â¢s life now. This simply means the child will consume foods by these restaurants or frozen food. This is done on an everyday basis, such as, when the parents take care of their business first or think of something quick all of the time to feed the child. Fast food restaurants are shut down every day due to many reasons. Reasons include failing several health inspections, lack of cleanliness, and not enough cautions. The downfall of this is people do not pay attention to the environment of where their food is coming from. They are all always in a rush. Instead of considering how long it takes to prepare a meal, one should consider it an opportunity to spend more time with the family. People just put their trust in the Employeeââ¬â¢s and is not concerned about the cleanliness of employeesââ¬â¢ hands. Simply, people need to take the time to pay attention, because fast food is not prepared with so much or no caution. ââ¬Å"Fast food versus soul food,â⬠what could the choice be? Fast food will be the choice if one is on the way to work. Soul food is the ideal choice if one does not have anything on their agenda for the next hour. In this paper, fast food restaurant versus soul food is different and similar in many ways. Fast food is mainly quick and easy. Soul food takes time, yet, it is filled with passion, love, and care. Fast food versus soul food is everybodyââ¬â¢s decision every day, just think about the reason why the choice is made, not about the taste of every meal. The literary theme that Birney is discussing in his essay is structural irony. Structural irony is basically a series of ironic events and instances that finally build up to create a climax. The events and the climax the Birney chooses to focus his essay on are the events that lead towards the end when almost each character suffers an ironic event: Absolon: kisses Alisounââ¬â¢s backside Nicholas: gets his backside burned John: falls from the tub and breaks his arm Ironic events and play on words were used to lead to this ironic climax. First Event Birney writes that the description of each character as sweet or using the word sweet to describe them on Chaucerââ¬â¢s part is ironic. Nicholas: sweet singer, sweet smelling of herbs all day & Being uninhibited. l. 97, l. 99., l. 107 Birney p. 76 middle Alisoun: naturally sweet as well as Nicholas, her mouth is described as sweet. l. 153 Birney p. 78 top. Absolon: is a contrast, he is artificially sweet, he chews spices an herbs to try to be sweet. Birney p. 79 lower. These three descriptions are the first things in Birneyââ¬â¢s article that are beginning the ironic structure that Chaucer has carefully built. Second Event à à à à à Next, Birney examines the irony between the rivalry of Nicholas and Absolon in order to gain Alisounââ¬â¢s kiss, affection, or to have an affair with her. Nicholas: has no rivals in a way he just becomes forceful and persistant he offers himself in an aggressive manner and he gains her permission to do what he pleases to her body. l. 165-186, Birney p. 78 (before the quote). à à à à à Absolon: approaches her by going to her window at night and serenading her mind you he does not have a sweet voice (sqeaky, feminine) his approach is the most pathetic and apologetic Then he tries to woo her by giving her gifts such as waffles and sweet wine Birney argues that he should not have tried to give sweet gifts to someone who is naturally sweet. l. 245- 259, l. 270 ââ¬â 272, Birney p. 79 lower ââ¬â80 top & 80 middle. Third Event: The Climax Finnaly, the third event has been unraveled and anticipated, through The two first events. The greatly anticipated climax begins to unravel. Absolon: kisses Alisounââ¬â¢s rear end and the vengefully burns Nicholas instead of Alisoun (he dosenââ¬â¢t really care). Right of Control The engaged has a right to control the employee but it is not necessarily must be used in practice. This kind of control usually used by engaged to control when and/or were the employee perform his/her services, how it is perform, and what tasks has to be performed but in some kind of work (where employee is an expert) this control will not be important.Under the self- employment the person who perform the work is usually free to choose when and where to do so. Financial Risk The main distinction in financial risk between employee and self-employment person is that the second one is ready to risk own money by buying a materials needed to perform the work, and also paying for overheads and bearing the running costs. Next the scope and types of exploitation will be discussed. Human trafficking is an issue that affects countries all over the world. Governments have made an effort to curb trafficking, however these efforts have been very narrowly focused. American ignorance has led to poor handling of the issues by policy makers. Finally the essay will discuss a proposed solution and set some goals for society to work on in the future. When examining the traditional definition of slavery, it focuses on one human being taking ownership of another. Traditionally slaves were transported by lengthy sea voyages. However, with advancements inâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The remaining twenty five percent end up used for a combination of sex and labor trafficking, or are used in some other unknown trafficking operation. Victims of commercial sexual exploitation are comprised of roughly ninety eight percent women and the remaining two percent are men and boys. However, children make up somewhere between 40 to 50 percent of the individuals involved in forced labor (Hepburn and Simon 2). Modern day slavery is far more profitable than slavery has been historically. This increase in profitability is due to the cost of exploiting a slave being miniscule in comparison to immense profits that a criminal can reap. The low risk involved for slave exploiters coupled with paltry conviction rates, has been a key factor in driving the tremendous demand for new slaves (Kara 69). It is astonishing to note that worldwide profits for human trafficking organizations exceed $44.3 billion annually (Hepburn and Simon 2). While the majority of sex trafficking victims are typically runaway or thrown-away youths, many other victims get involved in prostitution out of desperation to get things they need or want, like drugs or money (Walker-Rodriguez and Hill 2). Despite the news mediaââ¬â¢s constant focus on sex trafficking, there are other types of trafficking that occur outside the sex industry (Uy 209). The points that are considered to have the most significance are the Battle of Midway, the Battle of Stalingrad, and the Battle of El Alamein. Each one of these battles contributed to the rise of the Allies, and the fall of the Axis in their own way. The Battle of Midway is considered the most influential battle in the Pacific theater. It took place between June 4th and June 7th, 1942, near Midway Atoll. American Admirals Chester Nimitz, Frank Jack Fletcher, and Raymond A. Spruance lead a battle against the Japanese fleet, under the Admirals Isoroku Yamamoto, Chuichi Nagumo, and Nobutake Kondo. The battle ended with the Americans victorious, and the Japanese fleet suffering irreversible damages. The victory of this battle is largely due to the American cryptographers, who managed to find the time, date, and place that the attack was to take place. This allowed the Americans to prepare for the attack, and ultimately lead to their victory. The battle of midway is considered the biggest naval victory in history, and marks a turning point in the war. With the Japanese fleet decimated, the Pacific remained under US control, allowing trade to continue for the US, and allowed the US to focus more of their efforts in Europe. The Battle of Stalingrad was considered to be one of the largest and bloodiest battles in history. Nazi Germany and its allies tried to advance on the Eastern front, further into Russia. The Germans began their offensive on August 23rd, 1942, by sending in the 6th army with support from the 4th Panzer division, all the while having support from the Luftwaffe. Despite this apparent tactical advantage, the fighting was eventually reduced to fighting house for house. In the end, the Red Army managed to push the Germans back, out of Stalingrad, and the Germans never regained their footing on the Eastern front. This battle is considered a turning point because it marks the point where the Germans could no longer advance to the East. Putting Germany on the defencive in the East also meant the German army had to redistribute troops, withdrawing them from the West, and sending them East. This made the war on the Western front significantly easier. The Battle of El Alamein, marked the first major victory of the Allies, without US intervention. The battle took place on the 23 of October, 1942, and ended November 3rd of the same year. It took place near the El Alamein railway in Egypt. Lead by Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Law Montgomery, the battle cut the Axis powers, off from the Suez Canal, and the oil fields of the Middle East. During the battle a German oil tanker was also sunk, leading to dire lack of fuel for the German army. This battle was the main turning point in the North African Campaign, and helped lead to the ultimate defeat of the Axis. The Suez Canal was a vital resource for trade and troop movement, making it a strategic point. Cutting off Germany from the oil fields was also a tactical decision, making it harder to fuel the tanks and trucks in use by the Germans at the time. On top of it all, the win was a massive boost to the morale of the Allies. World War Two was a bloody affair, fought by honest men, and lead by strong leaders. There are many battles that made up the second world war, but without the victory at these three points, the path which the war took could have been very different. L. Vidovic Ucenica: Ema Patrcevic U Virovitici, ozujak 2012. Dolazi vec u starijim Vedama. On opening night, as I sat up above the audience, I watched as the people chatted anxiously. I witnessed their hushed awe as the stage manager lowered the houselights. Then, after the curtains were drawn, and the opening number began, I spotted one energetic performer after another. After that night, I was hooked on plays. I didnââ¬â¢t simply fall in love with theater because of its entertainment value. That evening I learned that community theaters benefit not just the audience but the entire community. So, why should you support your local playhouse? Here are a few ideas to consider: Nurture New Artists: Many successful actors, directors, writers, and choreographers have launched their careers in humble, small town playhouses. Just by attending and applauding, audiences give up-and-coming stars the positive feedback they need to continue their artistic pursuits. Also, many community theaters offer classes for childrenââ¬â¢s productions. The stage develops confidence and responsibility within young performers. In my experience, I have seen the shyest of children improve her communication skills. When I directed childrenââ¬â¢s shows for a local civic light opera, I met a seven year old girl named Megan who only spoke in whispers; she didnââ¬â¢t have any friends at the beginning of rehearsals. However, the choreographer noticed that she moved very gracefully. We gave her a special dance solo. It boosted her self-esteem. Soon, she was an outgoing, talkative, and friendly part of the cast. Share Valuable Skills: Community theaters need more than just cast members. Anyone that can sew a costume, paint a backdrop, build a staircase, or edit a sound effect is a desirable addition to the company. Novices of a particular skill, such as construction or lighting, can increase their ability by working alongside veteran craftsmen. Likewise, experts can enjoy sharing their knowledge and passing their craftsmanship to the next generation. à Advertise Locally: à Small business owners should financially support playhouses, and not just for altruistic reasons. A good thirty minutes before a show, most audience members spend their time thumbing through the program, inspecting the actor bios. Itââ¬â¢s the perfect opportunity to advertise. Theater goers are essentially a captive audience while they scan through the program. Small business can use this time to reach hundreds of potential customers. Ad space is relatively inexpensive and will help the performing arts thrive. à Socialize with New People: à Whether you work as an assistant director, a chorus member, the star of the show or a stagehand, one thing is certain: you will meet new friends. There is something exhilarating about putting on a show. It brings people close together; it tests their skills, and it enlightens audiences. Many lifelong friendships and relationships have been formed while practicing sword fighting, stage-kissing, or falling through a trap door. There is a strong bond with all who band together to put on a play. We become friends because we work as one to tell as story. à Be Part of the Storytelling Process: à Plays are an ancient form of storytelling. Itââ¬â¢s a creative ritual still very much alive despite the age ofà Youtube. Most community theaters produce time-tested classics such as Man of La Mancha, Death of a Salesman, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Some are light hearted; some are deep and profound. All offer a message to the audience. Classic and contemporary plays speak to us because they explore what it means to be human. Those who participate in the storytelling process can feel proud knowing they are spreading a positive message to their community. So go audition. Offer up your skills. Advertise in the program. Contribute your time and energy. And by all means, go see a show! Youââ¬â¢ll become a part of the vibrant, long-cherished tradition of the theatrical storytelling. ââ¬Å"The powerful Play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.â⬠Walt Whitman Lorenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14109477476509743538noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8646486381052930361.post-28441999886517185432019-11-21T06:21:00.001-08:002019-11-21T06:21:09.173-08:00Jordanian Arabic Phonology and Morphology EssayJordanian Arabic Phonology and Morphology - Essay Example As the report declares a major difference in the syllabic inventory of the two languages is in the presence of the super-heavy syllable of the form CVVC in Arabic and its dialects. This does not exist in the syllable-structure in English. Although there are many other points of difference between English and Jordanian Arabic from the phonological point of view, including rules of transformation and optimality theoretical constraints, the discussion has been restricted here to these basic points of difference. This paper compares the two languages- English and Jordanian Arabic- in terms of the morphology that characterizes them. One of the principal characteristics of Semitic morphology is its being non-linear or non-concatenative: instead of morphemes being placed linearly before the stem as prefixes and suffixes as in English, the morphemic structure of Semitic words is characterized by two or more morphemes interwoven within each other in a discontinuous fashion. One morpheme is inserted into another in certain slots of the word-stem structure. Neither the root-morpheme nor the morpheme to which it is attached (also called the template) free. They are both bound morphemes and only when a certain root and a template merge a definite word is completely specified phonologically, morphologically and semantically. In the case of third-person pronouns, English has he/she/it for singular while Jordanian Arabic has a dichotomy: objects ending with ââ¬Å"taaââ¬â¢ murbootaâ⬠take the pro noun ââ¬Å"hiyehâ⬠and rest take ââ¬Å"howaâ⬠. This is the only way that all events and activities witnessed are communicated to all parties in the best possible way. Packaging is necessary in the field of journalism. This is because proper packaging ensures that all the information collected is as palatable as possible (Kobre 2008). The role of journalism cannot be ignored in any given society. This is because, at each and every point, the public interest in what is happening all over the world is very high. This is possible because of the aspects of journalism that look into the events all over the world. The coordination of information and pictures is able to communicate all the needed information about a situation. The condensation of information and pictures about any situation totals to journalism. This is the only way that the public is aware of their surroundings. Photojournalis m Photojournalism is one area in the entire field of journalism. Each new story has the sole aim of communicating information. For it to appeal to all the involved parties, it is accompanied by still pictures and images that complement the story (Kobre 2008). As compared to all other forms of photography, photojournalism has been stipulated to follow certain ethical and pictorial considerations. They are entitled to remain as ethical and impartial to communicate the specifics of what should be reported. They complementary role that photojournalism plays has been reported to bring any story alive. Many people that have been interviewed in many researchers conclude that they watched and participated in news surveys as a result of what they watch. This is as compared to what they hear (Kobre 2008). Many life events were reversed as a result of what images were relayed to accompany a story. There are very many examples that show what the research concluded. The genocide in Rwanda in 199 4 and the civil war in Sudan got worldwide attention as a result of chilling images that accompanied the stories. These are some few random examples from all over the world in line with the effects of photojournalism. It is imperative that, at each and every point the aspects of photojournalism should be governed by timeliness, narration and objectivity. This means that all pictures and images should be timely in how they complement the story line. This is through the introduction of a cutline. The images and pictures should also be very objective in the sense that the pictures should have a high sense of what the story line is about. Without the connection, they will be of absolutely no benefit to the story. The connection between the pictures and the story line is through the introduction of a narrative. Narration ensures that the audience is able to relate the story and picture. This creates a perfect view for all those that are watching (Kovach 2007). Job Description and Skills Profile Photojournalism entails the use and application of photographic equipment. The equipment has the ability to capture images as they appear. Once a photojournalist is in the zone, the camera is zoomed to view all aspects of what is being filmed. It is necessary for the journalist to zoom and project the image from all the necessary angles. Aspects of creativity come into sharp focus as any form of angle alteration could lead to the complete Lorenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14109477476509743538noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8646486381052930361.post-1129319716660237282019-11-17T19:20:00.001-08:002019-11-17T19:20:04.315-08:00Employee Reward Strategy for Heidelberg Insurance Services AssignmentEmployee Reward Strategy for Heidelberg Insurance Services - Assignment Example In order to reduce the problems of lack of commitment, Poor quality performance and Lack of effective control, it is hereby recommended that the amount of times based salary in their monthly take home should be considerably reduced and a new system of commission based salary should be introduced. Commission should be directly proportionate to the volume of sales achieved by individual sales consultant. Also, the formula of higher the sales, the higher the percentage of commission should apply. Complete abandonment of fixed based salary is not recommended because it will reduce job security that may lead to high turnover. Also, if due to any reason i.e. illness, a sales consultant is not able to work for full number of days in a month; his/her commission income will sharply reduce. Thus, this fixed based salary will supplement that consultant's income in that particular month. Ultimately it will lead to enhanced commitment towards HIS. In an addition, to ensure effective checks and balances on the activities of sales consultants, amount of commission income should be made inversely proportionate to the number of complaints received against each of them. A Points System of Rewards i.e. ... Customer's feedback should also have strong impact on a sales consultant's pay package and quarterly/yearly bonus. To achieve this, customer satisfaction survey should be conducted after careful selection of sample. It will help in two ways. First of all it will make the customer feel that his/her feedback regarding the sales consultant's service to him is important to the company and thus it will develop a sense of attachment between him/her and the company. Secondly, it will help exercise effective control over the sales consultant. He/she will take great care at the time of making commitments - a problem that the company is facing and paying for by bad publicity by some unsatisfied customers. It is also highly recommended that the team of sales consultants should not be hired by one sales director only; they should be divided into 4 teams and each team headed by one team leader directly reporting to the sales director. It will be easy for team leaders and the sales director also to handle small groups of people that will help develop committed teams competing with each other in terms of sales and quality of output. Clerical Division Existing Payment System An organization's success depends not only on the performance of its sales team and / or of the senior management, the minor tasks performed by clerical staff are also important though relatively lesser than that of others. At Heidelberg, existing reward strategy does not reflects any thing that may motivate clerical staff to stay committed to the organization and to help achieve management's aim of reducing cost. Recommended Reward Strategy Since the job does not require a very high level of commitment, neither does Lorenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14109477476509743538noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8646486381052930361.post-71296750866860870082019-11-15T07:52:00.001-08:002019-11-15T07:52:09.863-08:00L-Shaped Array for Multi-frequency Interferometry TelescopeL-Shaped Array for Multi-frequency Interferometry Telescope Abstract An array of eight antennas with different configuration, more precisely an L-shaped array has been built for the Multi-frequency Interferometry Telescope for Radio Astronomy (MITRA) project. It consists of quite newly designed Dual Polarised Log Periodic Dipole Antennas (DPLPDA). The first stage of the project was to test the existing array of DPLPDA antennas in a parallelconfiguration in the North South direction and to bring forward different improvements. Also, comparision of data was done with the Durban University of Technology (DUT) at Durban RSA where a similar array was constructed. Next, UV coverage of different arrays were simulated. After that, the DPLPDA were constructed. After setting up the array, the antenna response of each antenna was tested and the results obtained was interpreted. The final test was to test the complete array after combining all the antennas. CHAPTER 1 Introduction and Overview 1.1Introduction 1.1.1Radio Astronomy Radio astronomy is the study of celestial objects that emit radio waves. In the 1930ââ¬â¢s, Karl Jansky (1905-1950), working for the Bell Laboratories, was trying to determine the origin of the source of noise interfering with radio voice transmissions. He built a steerable antenna designed to receive radio waves at a frequency of 20.5 MHz. From the observations, he found that the period of the earthââ¬â¢s rotation relative to the radio source was 23 hours and 56 minutes instead of 24 hours. Hence, he concluded that the source was follwing sidereal time. He also observed that the strongest radiation was coming from the centre of our Milky Way galaxy.Inspired by Janskyââ¬â¢s work, Grote Reber (1911-2002) built a parabolic radio telescope of diameter 9m in his back yard, in 1937. After several trials, Reber successfully detected radio emission from the Milky Way, in 1938, confirming Janskys discovery. This led to the discovery of a range of celestial objects, such as radio gala xies, quasars, and pulsars with radio emission with various types of antennas. [1] 1.1.2.1 Radio Interferometry Radio interferometry are arrays of radio antennas that are used inastronomicalobservations simultaneously to simulate singletelescopesof very largeapertures and are used to make measurements of fine angular detail in the radio emission. Radio interferometry enable measurement of the position of radio sources with accuracy to allow identification of other objects detected in the electromagnetic spectrum. Michelson and Pease made the discovery of the interferometric techniques in 1921. They were able to obtain sufficiently fine angular resolution to measure the diameters of some of the nearer stars such as Arcturus and Betelgeuse. [2] 1.1.2.2 Aperture Synthesis Aperture Synthesis or Synthesis Imaging is a type of interferometry that correlates radio signals obtained from a collection of telescopes or antennas to produce images. These images have the same angular resolution as that of the size of a single and a much larger telescope or antenna. Aperture synthesis was first discovered by Sir Martin Ryle (27 September 1918 ââ¬â 14 October 1984) and coworkers from the Radio Astronomy Group at Cambridge University at radio wavelengths. In 1974, Martin Ryle was the first astronomer awarded a Nobel Prize. [3] Very Long Baseline Interferometry(VLBI) also makes use of radio interferometric techniques. TypicallyVLBIrefers to experiments that do not process their data in real time, but record it for latercorrelation to produce the resulting image. It achieves ultra-high angular resolution and is a multi-disciplinary technique. VLBIis used in measuring pulsar parallaxes andproper motion, resolving the cores of radio galaxies and fets from supermassive black holes, among others. [14] Some of the commonly used radio interferometers are: the Very Large Array (VLA) in Socorro, New Mexico,USA; It consists of 27 radio antennas, each of diameter 25 metres, along three arms of a Y-shaped configuration spread over three 21 kilometres tracks providing 351 baselines. [4] the Multi-Element Radio Linked Interferometer Network (MERLIN), operated by Jordrell Bank Observatory; It is an array of 7 radio telescopes spread across Britain with separation up to 217 kilometres operating at frequencies between 151 MHz and 24 GHz. [5] the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) in Narrabri, NSW, Australia. The telescope is an array of six identical 22 metres diameter dishes with five movable dishes along a 3 kilometres railway track and the sixth one is 3 kilometres west at the end of the main track. The maximum baseline length is 2.7 kilometres and the observing frequencies are from 300 MHz to 8 GHz.[6] the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) in Narayangaon,Pune, India. It consists of 30 steerable parabolic dish each of diameter 45 metres opertaing at six different frequency bands and where 14 dishes are arranged in a central square and remaining 6 in a three arm Y-shaped array giving a baseline of about 25 Kilometres . [7] Some of the new radio interferometers are: Low Frequency Array (LoFAR) in north of Exloo, the Netherlands (core) and neighbouring countries It is a phased-array of radio telescopes of about 25,000 small antennas in at 48 larger stations where 40 of these stations are distributed across the north of Netherlands, five stations in Germany, and one each in Great Britain, France and Sweden and has a low requency range from 10-240 MHz. [8] Figure 1: The LoFAR Array Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) in llano de Chajnantar Observatory, Atacama Desert,Chile It consists of sixty six 12 metres and 7 metres diameter radio telescopes observing at wavelengths of 0.3 to 9.6 millimetres . [9] Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) in Murchison Radio Astronomy Observatory, Western Australia It consists of 2048 dual-polarization dipole antennas, each a 44 array of dipoles and operates at low radio frequencies, 80-300 MHz, with a processed bandwidth of 30.72 MHz for both linear polarisations, and consists of 128 aperture arrays (known as tiles) distributed over approximately 3- kilometres diameter area. [10] Figure 2: MWA Antenna tiles KAT7 MeerKAT in Northern Cape, South Africa Figure 3: Aerial View of KAT7 KAT-7 consist of 7 dishes of 12 metres in diameter each a Prime Focus Reflecting Telescopes having a minimum baseline of 26 meters and maximum baseline of 185 metres and have a frequency range of 1200 MHz ââ¬â 1950 MHz. KAT-7 is an engineering prototype for the MeerKAT. KAT-7 is the worldââ¬â¢s first radio telescope array with fiberglass dishes. . MeerKAT, which is still under construction and is slated for completion in 2016 , will consist of 64 dishes of 13.5 meters in diameter having a minimum baseline of 29 metres and maximum baseline of 20 kilometres and it will operate at frequency ranging from 580MHz ââ¬â 1.75 GHz and 8 ââ¬â 15 Ghz.[11,12] e- MERLIN is an enhanced and upgraded array of the old MERLIN array. The e- MERLIN instrument is a high resolution radio interferometer connected by a new optical fibre network to Jodrell Bank Observatory. This new system gives rise to a massive increase in sensitivity and observational capabilities.[13] Figure 4: e-MERLIN array European VLBI Netwok (EVN) is an interferometric array of radio telescopes spread across Europe which also includes stations in far-East Asia , South Africa and Puerto Rico that conducts high resolution radio astronomical observations of radio sources. It is the most sensitive VLBI array in the world. It was formed in 1980 and the administering body now comprises 14 institutes[15].TheEVNalso routinely joins other networks, such as theVery Long Baseline Array (VLBA)and the Multi-Element Radio Linked Interferometer Network (MERLIN), to become a globalVLBIarray. The VLBA is spread throughout Mauna Kea , Hawaii and St Croix. It typically consists of 10 VLA radio antennas and as result it has a maximum baseline exceeding 8000 Km[16]. Some of the future African based new radio interferometers are: African VLBI Network (AVN) Multi-Frequency Interferometry Telescope for Radio Astronomy (MITRA) 1.1.3 MITRA (Multi-frequency Interferometry Telescope for Radio Astronomy) 1.1 The MITRA is an international radio astronomy project which aims to do extremly wide field of imaging with heterogenius non coplanar arrays. The acronym of MITRA means ââ¬Å"friendâ⬠in Sanskrit. It is a low frequency array telescope jointly started by Girish Kumar Beeharry from University of Mauritius (UOM) nd Stuart David Macpherson and Gary Peter Janse Van Vuuren from the Durban University of Technolagy (DUT) in South Africa. The project is being simultaneously implemented at the Mauritius Radio Telescope (MRT), located at Bras Dââ¬â¢Eau Mauritius, site and at the DUT campus site. The projects will then be expanded to the different SKA Africa partner countries and eventually to other African countries. Data from each country will be combined to form an international aperture synthesis telescope using the techniques of Very Large Baseline Interferometry (VLBI). It is a sensitive high resolution multifrequency dual polarity instrument in the range of 200 to 800 MHz. The instrument chosen for this purpose are Dual Polarized Log Periodic Dipole Antennas (DPLPDA)[17]. 1.1.4 African Long Baseline Interferometry Network (AVN) The African Very Long Baseline Interferometry Network (AVN) is an array of radio telescopes throughout Africa. It is planned to form part of the existing global VLBI networks . It will be associated with the European VLBI Network (EVN ). The latteris a consortium of major radio astronomy institutes in Europe and China (Schilizzi). It has member and associated radio telescopes in Europe, China, South Africa (Hartebeesthoek0, Japan(Kashima) and Puerto Rico (Arecibo). The EVN is capable of providing an excellent angular resolution(from 5 to 0.15 milliarc seconds depending on observing frequency) and high sensitivity for VLBI observations. One of the main technological drivers has been the availability of telecommunication antennas all over Africa. Part of the scheme is to modify the existing dishes, of about at least 30 m in diameter, into radio telescopes. All these telescopes will be linked together, and to radio telescopes in South Africa, forming the African VLBI Network. This, in t urn, would be connected to radio telescopes and arrays in Europe and elsewhere in the world, including North and South America, Asia and Australia. The conversion of a Ghana located dish into a radio telescopes has already been begun. The AVNââ¬â¢s plans to convert three more dishes in Kenya, Zambia and Madagascar. It also aims to build four new radio telescopes in Namibia, Botswana, Mauritius and Mozambique. [19] 1.1.5 Electronic Multi Beam Radio Astronomy ConcEpt(EMBRACE) and African European Radio Astronomy Aperture Array (AERA3 ) The EMBRACE demonstrates the technical and scientific potential of the aperture array concept using a phased array station with the essential SKA. There are two stations, one in NanÃâà «ay, France and the other one at the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) in the Netherlands. These two stations are prototype arrays for the SKA MFAA. It consists of an antenna array organized in tiles of dual polarization antennas. A large number of antenna tiles forms the collecting area. The signals from the radiating elements of the antenna from each tile are amplified and the initial analogue RF beam forming is applied. Generally, an EMBRACE is designed for a frequency range of 400-1500 MHz of single polarization, a collecting area of 100 m2 , system temperature of 100 K and has two fields of view with 8 digital beams . The idea of having multiple independent beams gives rise to the AERA3 because EMBRACE considers only two beams. AERA3 is similar to EMBRACE but this new aperture array will have a greater collecting area with will be approximately 2000 m2 varying with a frequency range of 400-1500 MHz with full polarization, two fields of view with 64 digital beams, system temperature of 50 K and bandwidth of less than 500 MHz. AERA3 will be used for intensity mapping, surveys of the whole sky and search for pulsars.[20,21] Figure 5: Embrace at Nancay, Paris 1.1.6 The Square Kilometre array (SKA) The SKA will be a revolutionary radio telescope made of hundred of thousands of receptors. They will be linked together, forming a total collecting area of approximately one square kilometre. It will be the largest and most sensitive radio telescope ever built. It will be able to survey the sky faster than present instruments. In 2006, the African consortium and Australia were both shortlisted as potential sites fot building the SKA. In the 25th May 2012, the SKA organisation announced that SKA would be shared between the African consortium and Australia on a 2:1 ratio basis. The African consortium would be undertaking the construction of the high and mid frequency arrays. The Australian would be in charge of the low frequency aperture array. The SKA consists of two phases where Phase 1 is the construction of about 10% of the SKA. It will make use of the existing infrastructure and telescopes already being built by the two countries. That is, the South Africas precursor array the 64-dish MeerKAT telescope and the Australias 36-dish SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP). Additionally, there will be 50low-frequency 1.5 metre high antenna stations, 60mid-frequency 15 metre dishes built in Australia. Finally, 190mid-frequency 15 metres dishes will be built in South Africa. Phase 2 is the extension to a baseline of 3,000 Km or more in South Arica and African partners countries. These are namely, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, and Zambia. Also, a total of about three thousand dishes, with the highest concentration in the Northern Cape, South Africa, and some dishes in the other consortium countries will be built. In Australia, the telescope will extend over a baseline of200 km. It will operate with a frequency coverage from 70 MHz to 30 GHz. The SKA will use aperture synthesis, over a distance of more than 3000km to simulate a single giant radio telescope capable of extremely high sensitivity and angular resolution. The SKA will be able to observe the black holes, stars, galaxies and detect black holes[11,22,23,24]. Figure 6: SKA overview 1.1.7 The Log Periodic Dipole Antenna A log periodic antenna, also referred to as a log periodic array, is an antenna that can operate on a wide frequency band. It was à ¯Ã ¬Ã rst built in 1958 by Dwight Isbell at the University of Illinois, United States of America. LPDA is a directional antenna which possesses constant electrical characteristics such as gain, impedance and front-to-back ratio over the wide range of frequencies. It varies periodically with the logarithmic. The antenna consists of a series of linear elements also known as dipoles and the individual elements connect with a transmission or feed line such as coaxial cable. Each element is placed in an alternating configuration leading to a phase shift of 180o (Ã⬠radians). [25] 1.2 Aim The aim of this project is to construct a front-end system for radio astronomical observations in the frequency range 200 MHz to 800 MHz using the Dual Polarised Log Periodic Dipole Antenna model with bandwidth 200 MHz to 800 MHz. The front end system will consist of an L-shaped array of antennas. This L shaped array is the start of a matrix of an eight by eight antennas. It will be used as a prototype for Intensity mapping for large scale neutral hydrogen (HI) mapping. Several improvements to the existing antennas will be made and applied to new array configuration. Also along with the array, a shielded box will be constructed for electronic purposes. This work focuses on the longer baseline sparse mid frequency aperture array (MFAA), in contrast to the dense aperture arrays like EMBRACE and the future AERA3.
